More than 10 years old and still trendy, Spot seems to be the exception to the rule that all that is hip soon melts into air. The daytime crowd consists of mostly well-dressed office workers or businesspeople on expense-account lunch meetings. It's the evening crowd, however, that keeps Spot buzzing when musicians, designers, models, and other trendy types crowd in to this glass-enclosed downtown cocoon to flirt, schmooze, and preen. The food is pretty decent; pasta dishes, such as a penne with melon, salads (try the Spot Salad -- lettuce, Gorgonzola, dried pears, and nuts), grilled salmon, and tuna with vegetables are offered. It may just be that Spot's owners have created a perpetual motion machine: The young and beautiful flock to see the young and beautiful, who flock to see the young and beautiful, and so on. . . .
