It would be hard to imagine a more picture perfect little restaurant than Volterra. Set on a shady tree-lined street of historic brick buildings, this place is made for romantic dinners. It's also a wonderful place for a weekend brunch. Rest assured that this is not your typical southern Italian joint. Start your meal with polenta stuffed with fontina and served with truffle-scented wild mushroom ragu, then move on to wild boar with gorgonzola sauce or lamb loin with tarragon and mustard sauce. At brunch, be sure you order something with hash browns; they're to die for. Whenever you come here to dine, be sure to do a little shopping along Ballard Avenue before or after your meal.
