Formerly attractive because of its romantic colonial Shanghai setting, this small restaurant has recently undergone a renovation in favor of a more traditional Western look (flower wallpaper, thick drapes, upholstered chairs). Happily, traces of old Shanghai remain -- wall posters of the 1930s, tiny intimate tables, and waitresses clothed in traditional qipao dresses (high collar, side slits) -- making this a still-pleasant spot to drop in for a Shanghai lunch, a light dinner, or late-night drinks. Popular menu items include lamb or duck scallion pancakes, Shanghai fried noodles, and Yu Yuan fried dumplings, though the dishes are mostly just average. For tipplers, there's a full bar with a range of reasonably priced liquors, as well as coffees, teas, and fresh juices.
