Bali Laguna is widely acclaimed for its exquisite setting, perched over a lily pond in the heart of Jing An Park. With an exotic Southeast Asian decor, views of the surrounding garden, and discreet sarong-clad waitstaff, there are few more genteel or romantic places to dine in Shanghai. The food is fairly authentic, rated above average though falling short of a rave. Tasty choices include otak-otak (grilled fish cake), chicken satay, king prawns with vermicelli and lemon grass, and stir-fried mushrooms with herbs and vegetables. Dining is on the second floor; reserve ahead for a window table. The bar on the first floor is open nightly until 1am.
