Squirreled away in the French Concession in charming Ferguson Lane -- a trendy little warren of shops, offices, and restaurants -- is this cozy French restaurant serving the most authentic bistro fare in town. The red walls are adorned with French movie posters and maps. The menu changes daily, which the attentive and friendly staff cart around on a blackboard while owner Franck, originally from Aix-en-Provence, attends to every table. Menu choices are all solid here, judging from the many French-speaking repeat diners. You can't go wrong with the cold cuts or the Terrine de Campagne for starters, and classic
poulet roti (using free-range chicken from Mongolia, no less) and
tartare de boeuf for mains. When the delectable
confit de canard makes an appearance, be sure to pounce on it. The wine list has some pleasant French finds that complement the dishes well, and a small boulangerie sells meats and cheeses if you want to pack for a picnic the next day.
