Delectable crusty bread on the table, Frank Sinatra crooning in the background, and vibrant local art on the walls are clues that this isn't your typical ski-area pub-fare restaurant. A short stroll off Stowe's main street, in an older home with a contemporary interior, the Blue Moon offers the village's finest dining. The wonderful menu changes every Friday, but count on lamb, beef, and veggie dishes, plus seafood dishes and even venison. The kitchen staff has superb instincts for spicing, and creates rather inventive dishes for Vermont such as sweet-and-sour braised rabbit, grilled lamb steak, orange-beet soup, polenta-crusted shrimp, grilled tuna with tomatillo, and a banana-leaf steamed halibut with Thai curry. Desserts, which are pure delights, might include a Belgian chocolate pot, a white chocolate mousse with caramelized banana, a lemon curd tart, or a Vermont cheese plate.
