Amiable chef/owner Kazuhiro ("Kaz") Okochi introduced Washington to sushi long ago, at a restaurant called Sushi-Ko. Since 1999, Kaz has run his sushi bistro in this handsome town house. Aficionados vie for one of the six chairs at the bar to watch Kaz and his staff do their thing, especially at lunch, when fellow diners are likely to be Japanese men in Washington on business and young Washingtonians. Besides sushi, Kaz is known for his briny lobster with wasabi mayo, sea trout napoleon, and for his bento boxes, offering exquisite tastings of pan-seared salmon, spicy broiled mussels, and the like. This is also the place for premium sakes and a large selection of teas.
