Up-and-Riding
Oahu
The name says it all -- the term used for someone who has just successfully caught a wave and is, well, up and riding. This stroller-friendly store is the creation of Jake Mizuno, owner of Honolulu Quicksilver stores, and what he did for adult surfers, he is doing for young tykes in this store: toddler-sized Lycra rash guards, mini-size surf boards, and everything else your young waveriders could possibly need or want. The name says it all -- the term used for

The furniture ranges from 1940s rattan to wicker and old koa -- those items tailor-made for informal island living and leisurely moments on the lanai. Myhand also collects bottles and mails his license plates all over the world. The collection ebbs and flows with his finds, keeping buyers waiting in the wings for his Depression glass, California pottery from the 1930s and 1940s, old dinnerware, perfume bottles, vintage aloha shirts, and vintage Hawaiian music on cassettes.Owner Joe Myhand loves furniture, old Matson liner menus, blue

Brown-Kobayashi
Wailuku
Graceful living is the theme here. Prices range from a few dollars to the thousands in this 750-square-foot treasure-trove. The owners have added a fabulous selection of antique stone garden pieces that mingle quietly with Asian antiques and old and new French, European, and Hawaiian objects. Although the collection is eclectic, there is a strong cohesive aesthetic that sets Brown-Kobayashi apart from other Maui antiques stores. Japanese kimonos and obi, Bakelite and Peking glass beads, breathtaking Japanese lacquerware, cricket carriers, and cloisonné are among the delights here. Exotic and precious Chinese woods (purple sandalwood and huanghuali) glow discreetly from quiet corners, and an occasional monarchy-style lidded milo bowl comes in and flies out.Graceful living is the theme here. Karl Gottling's shop specializes in Asian antique furniture, but you can also find smaller carvings, precious stones, jewelry, netsuke, opium weights, and more. Ming dynasty ceramics, carved wooden apples ($15), and a Persian rug ($65,000) give you an idea of the range of possibilities here.Karl Gottling's shop specializes in Asian antique furniture, but you
