Bequia

Introduction

Only 18 sq. km (7 sq. miles) of land, Bequia (Beck-wee) is the largest of the Grenadines. It's the northernmost island in the chain (only 14km/8 3/4 miles south of St. Vincent), offering quiet lagoons, reefs, and long stretches of nearly deserted beaches. Its friendly population of some 5,000 is descended from seafarers and other early adventurers. Some 10% are of Scottish ancestry, living mostly in the Mount Pleasant region. A feeling of relaxation and informality prevails.
